Anti-bushismo primário por correspondência

Aparentemente, o desespero de certos sectores da esquerda europeia face a uma possível reeleição de Bush é tão grande que perderam todo o bom senso. O Guardian, jornal inglês conhecido pela sua clara orientação esquerdista, decidiu lançar uma campanha para tentar influenciar as presidenciais americanas pedindo aos seus leitores para que enviem cartas apelando aos eleitores de Clark County, no Ohio (um dos Estados em que as sondagens apontam para resultados mais equilibrados), para que votem contra Bush.

Como explica Mark Steyn, esta iniciativa é uma excelente notícia para Bush:

This is excellent news for the President, who in recent days had been looking a little wobbly in Ohio. But there's nothing like a barrage of mail from condescending Guardian readers to send the locals stampeding into the Bush camp. If the editor of the Guardian's up for it, fifty quid says Bush will win a higher proportion of the vote in Clark County on November 2 than he did last time.

A pro-Kerry letter-writing campaign by Britain's left-leaning Guardian newspaper, targeting undecided U.S. voters, has provoked outrage across the Atlantic.

The Fox national cable television network tore into the Guardian and even John Kerry's own Democrats expressed horror at the campaign.

"We all feel it is not a good idea. I think it was unwise. It is so poorly thought-out," said Sharon Manitta, spokeswoman in Britain for Democrats Abroad.

But the newspaper, whose cartoons regularly portray President Bush as a semi-literate ape, was unrepentant.
